Mr Nice

Based on the autobiography Mr Nice, this film tells the prodigious rise and fall of Howard Marks, an elite British drug smuggler.

With 43 aliases, 4 kids, 8 phone lines, and 25 companies throughout the world, his life is anything but mundane.

He also holds wide commercial appeal; over one million copies of his book have been sold to date.

The project was directed by Bernard Rose (Snuff-Movie, Ivansxtc) and began filming on the 15th January 2009 for two months

It stars:

Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Hannibal Rising),

Chloë Sevigny (Dogville, American Pyscho),

David Thewlis (Harry Potter, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), and

Omid Djalili (Pirates of the Caribbean,Gladiator).

Rhys Ifans' profile has been increased by his recent performance in the Richard Curtis film The Boat that Rocked (2009), where he starred alongside Bill Nighy, Gemma Arterton, and Philip Hoffman.

He has also starred in two films due for release in May 2010. In the The Informers he will star alongside Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, and Winona Ryder, and in Mr Nobody he stars alongside Diane Kruger and Jared Leto. He is also involved in Greenberg with Ben Stiller, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 with Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

Rhys Ifans produced a notable performance, which Howard Marks was very complimentary of at a recent screening. Chloë Sevigny comes across very well as the long-suffering wife, who went along for the ride, but became disillusioned and was ultimately let down by her charismatic, but unmanageable husband.

The supporting players, both adults and children are terrific. Omid Djali and especially David Thewlis as a mad IRA loose cannon, have some of the best lines. “Where’s the Nordle? and “I’ve Got the Nordle” are about to enter the film lexicon.

MR NICE is being sold by Independent and will be released in the UK later in the year.
